The article suggests getting rid of PowerPoint slides except when they're entertaining. I agree, mostly.
I found that the more I became comfortable in front of an audience, the more I realized that PowerPoint had been my crutch. And that was ok... it was part of the process of maturing as a speaker. I still use PowerPoint today but in much more deliberate ways such as:
- Conveying information that would be difficult with only the spoken word. (A picture IS worth a thousand words!)
- Keeping a distracted audience focused by displaying a few words about the current topic of a multi-part speech.
